Best Portable Drill Press
I will write a review on this WEN 4208 model later. For now, I tell you what I felt in various experiences with the drill press. This Wen 4208 version has 1/2 inch keyed chuck similar to the brands’ high-end models. Apart from these features, the depth adjustment gauge is a valuable feature to look.
I tried the depth adjustment gauge on this tool to review it because in my profession I use drill press models from Wen 4210, 4212 and 4214. I never used this 4208 in my profession. I ordered WEN 4208 on Amazon.
When I first received the WEN 4208 in my hands, I felt the Wen base and table both are very solid and sturdy. I have assembled the drill press in just 30 minutes using the simple instructions come along with the purchase. In fact, you don’t need the instructions material if you are already using any drill press.
Once the drill press assembled and started working, I never looked back.
The drill press has 1/2 inched key chuck which can accommodate larger diameter bits. This drill press costs only $70. This cheap drill press still holds a lot of features list as the higher priced ones.

This purchase could be one of your best investments this year as this is the best budget drill press. It won’t make any more significant holes in your pockets. When I started writing about the best drill press under $200, I thought to include only the drill presses cost you $100 – $ 200, but I couldn’t neglect this masterpiece. This product is the best drill press under $100.
It may be a small drill press but not leaving any significant features available in the higher priced ones. If you are expecting to have a drill press for your home use and only for the smaller materials you will use it, then I recommend the Wen model for you. I didn’t have much confidence to buy at first. But later I am surprised to see how effectively this drill press works.
This drill press model now has superior versions Wen 4212 and 4214. I have already written about one more version 4210. I won’t call 4208 version as a powerhouse, but still, this is the best affordable drill price for anyone. It can’t do any industry level drill jobs, but for smaller tasks, no other tool can beat it.
This cheap drill press has 5-speed variations, and the variations are here – 740, 1100, 1530, 2100, 3140. Setting the right speed for the right job comes only from experience. If you have never used a drill press before, then first you need to learn to set the speed controls.
The very first reason, the drill press becomes a faulty one is because of any person set the speed inappropriately. This wrong setting breaks the job material often, and in the worst cases, the whole drill bit suffers and you will need a drill bit sharpener then.
Pros:
- 5-speed variations 740, 1100, 1530, 2100, 3140
- Benchmark product for further 4210, 4212, 4214 models
- Priced under $200.
- 1/2 inch key chuck
- Depth adjustment gauge
Cons
- 8-inch drill only. Minimum 10 inch is the benchmark.
Best Low-Cost Drill Press
Identical to Wen 4210 model, SKIL 3320 also has 1/2 inch keyed chuck and 5-speed variation, 45% beveling angle tilting surface, and many more features.
Why is SKIL 3320-01 the Best Drill Press under $200?
This SKIL model is the Bosch drill press. Bosch has more authority in the power tools niche. I have recently published a list of Bosch oscillating tools. SKIL 3320-01 costs $120 same as the Wen 4210 model. You can count it as the best price in this set of features.
SKIL 3320-01 drill press is the best one if it is the first drill press. You will love it if you have limited space. It is easy to carry and keep it on any small table or near to your work area.

The assembly instructions that come along with the purchase made my installation work easier. My first job with the drill press was to drill a hole in a wine bottle, and I made it correctly using the 1/2″ diamond coring bit.
This SKIL 3320-01 drill press has Laser X2. Laser X2 boasts 2-beam laser ensures precise hole& bit alignment. Depth adjustment system lets you drill down in a flow. The SKIL 3320-01 drill press model has square work surface will support more significant pieces of material. The drill press weighs 52.3 pounds and operates in 120V.
SKIL 3320-01 drill press has 5 Speed variations which you can use to cut wood, metal, and other materials. This drill press works with the large diameter bits for woodworking and cutting. For the angled drilling, the tilting work surface will bevel between 0 to 45-degree angles. You can use significant bits in the 1/2 keyed chuck for bigger hole cuttings.
Robert Bosch offers 3-year Warranty for the SKIL 3320-01 drill press if the user registers before 30 days from the purchase date. It gives the guarantee that if there any manufacturing defects in the drill press and if any defects arise during the 3-year warranty period, the company to replace the product with a good one.
Pros
- Motor runs quietly
- Item packed and delivered on Styrofoam
- 1/2 inch Keyed Chuck
- 5 Speeds variation
- 2-beam laser
Cons
- Need to use right blades. Else breaks easily.
With Laser, 10-Inch
This drill press model from WEN is a powerhouse for anyone. This WEN 4210 drill press empowers 3.2 Amp, 600-3100RPM, 5 Speed operations, 2 1/2 inch Spindle and many more features.
Why WEN 4210 is the best drill press under $200?
Wen 4210 drill press works on speed from 600 RPM to 3100 RPM range. There are five speeds you can use in the drill press. The first speed is 600 RPM, the second speed is 1100 RPM, the third speed is 1700 RPM, the fourth speed is 2400 RPM, and the fifth speed is 3100 RPM.
For the slow drill requirement jobs, use the first speed settings and so on. Only an experienced working professional knows for which job which speed setting is the right one.

The laser light is the primary key feature in any drill press. Wen 4210 model offers the laser light for the precise drill. The laser light denotes right accurately where the bit will penetrate and drill. This precision laser light eliminates the guesswork and errors.
Depth adjustment gauge feature helps you to adjust the spindle travel length at your preferred levels. Depth adjustment gauge helps you to drill accurately. This depth adjustment lever is also helpful for faster repeating drill operations.
Next, we will see onboard work Light feature. I have used many drill presses in my over a decade experience. The old ones did not have any work light in-built. It was a reason for a lot of inaccurate drills and materials would go only for scrap. Now the newer drill presses feature an onboard work light which is more than enough for the accurate drills.

Pros
- 3.2 Amp Motor
- 5 Speed settings
- Laser precision
- 2/3 HP Induction motor
- 1/2 inch keyed chuck
- Cast Iron Base
Cons:
- Lower priced versions also have similar control settings.
Variable Speed Drill Press
This product version is the third one from WEN gets a seat in my “best drill press under $200”. Wen brand deserves such appreciation. Though most of the features available in the 4208, 4210 models are available here in the 4212 model, the WEN 4212 drill press has superior characteristics, and hence it is the best value drill press, I can say.
There is a digital speed readout display as an advanced feature which is not available in the previous models. This display shows the exact speed (RPM) at which the drill happens for now.
When I talk about the speed of the drill press, I must mention this, this 4212 model has mechanical speed adjustment lever, and you can move the lever so easy to change from one speed to other speed out of the 5-speed variations.
This mechanical speed adjustment lever is not available in the previous models. The lowest speed possible is 530 and speeds up to a maximum of 3100 available.

The depth adjustment gauge lever helps you to limit your spindle travel. Adjusting the spindle travel makes sure that you can do repeatable drilling operations and get accurate outcomes.
The previous model 4210 has laser precision, and it is available in this 4212 model too. The onboard laser light available in the drill press makes sure you see where the drill bit precisely travels through. Thus you do the accurate job and save the expensive job material from breaking.
If you see this WEN 4212 model for the first time, then the first thing you will notice is the perfect finish of the design. That is because of the cast iron use. This design gives the strength to the drill press, and the torque will not go waste. The three parts made of cast iron are the solid base, work table, and the covering top.
The 4.5 Amperage induction motor is available in the model. The 4.5 Amps motor gives the perfect torque and more exceptional performance. The previous models of WEN do not have such powerful Amperage motor. Hence I recommend going for this specific drill press model if you decided to get one in WEN brand.
The all other features are same as the previous 4208 and 4210 drill presses. The notable ones are 1/2 inch keyed chuck and beveling work table.
Pros
- Digital speed readout
- 4.5 Amps induction motor
- Top, work table, base – 3 areas made of cast iron.
- Mechanical speed adjustment lever.
- Laser precision
Cons
- Laser precision needs batteries.
w/ Laser Trac
I am a fan of Wen drill presses and used from cheap to costly models of Wen. But the Craftsman brand, I was looking at Amazon over a long time but never tried. Finally, the five-star ratings made me order it on Amazon three months back.
After using the Craftsman 10 inch drill press for three months for various tasks, now I like it very much. What do I love and dislike about it? Now I tell you.
Craftsman 10-inch drill press model is the bench type drill press. This product is higher priced best drill press under $200. It cost me $195. But it was worth for the money. It is the best value for money model, in my opinion.
The built quality is outstanding. The base of the drill press is of solid cast iron, and the same made quality on work table also.

This drill press model has 5-speed options. The speed range is 620 to 3100. I couldn’t use it for very low-speed drill press operations. No worries as it is not a low-speed drill press.
I use the Craftsman drill press for all my house holding projects, and it does the task very smooth. 1/2″ keyed chuck is available in this craftsman 10-inch model similar to each of the overhead best drill press under $200 I reviewed above.
The stroke length or how deep a hole can be drilled in one press – 2 to 2 1/2 inch, which we call as Spindle travel. Check out the features list in any of the drill press and look for Spindle travel mentioned. It is the measure of how deep we can drill in a single go.
The other thing I want to talk about Craftsman drill press is that installing laser batteries. I just confused at first where to put my laser batteries. Then I found that there is a plus-minus sign on the exact right side of the drill press and installed it.
Pros
- 5-speed variations from 620 to 3100.
- 2 and 1/2 inch spindle travel.
- Table height adjustment is easy.
- 3 Amps, 0.5 HP, 120V, 60 Hz.
- Work table made of steel cast iron.
Cons
- Low speed is 620. Not below than that available.
Drill Press Green
Ryobi DP103L, I give 6th spot on my best drill press under $200 list. Ryobi has all the specifications of other listed drill presses here.
The 5-speed variations, 1/2 inch keyed chuck, 3 Amps motor, 60 Hz, 120 V. The 5-speed variations from 570 RPM, 2800 RPM, and table tilt angle 0-45 degree (beveling angle) and locking depth stop for repeated drill works.

“Exactly” laser alignment system for precision is available for accurate drills, which works like the laser precision in other drill presses mentioned above. It helps you to see where the drill will go exactly.
Ryobi DP103L also has integrated work light which helps you see the working job in the proper light and saves your expensive job material from breaking. An excellent feature to mention is this.
There is also the small storage compartment conveniently holds chuck keys. This facility pretty much makes your task easier. You do not need to forget where you left the keys and searching often.
Pros
- 1/2″ Keyed Chuck
- 5-speed variations
- 360-degree swivel rotation
- 10-inch model but less weight 50 pounds
- 3 Amps, 60 Hz, 120V
Cons
- Laser precision is not available.
8-Inch Drill Press
A cheap best drill press under $200 that gets the basics right, the great Rikon 30-100 might not be a premium piece of tool or a good looker. But, it’s quite undeniably up there with the best – all thanks to the all-metal & cast iron shell and the impressive 5-speed motor inside when it comes to brute performance.
With its RPM ranging from 150 to 3100, the drill is a pleasure to use.
In our testing, we found it quite powerful, with enough torque to drill through everything from hard rocks, glass, bone, porcelain, and even aluminium. Sure, it was a bit noisy at times, but on the bright side, it stayed relatively vibration-free, which is a rare sight to see at these price points.
The good news continues with the built in depth stop, which makes repeated drilling tasks easier. Weirdly enough, the worktable isn’t made to be tilting.

So what else? Not much, really! To cut the cost, Rikon has focussed on the bare essentials to deliver a solid drilling experience. For safety, the on/off switch is placed on the bulkhead, where it’s accessible easily.
Pros
- All metal, durable build
- 5-speed transmission, high torque motor for a seamless drilling experience
- Built-in depth-stop with scale for repeating tasks
- Heavy-duty cast-iron work table
- 5-year warranty
Cons
- Gets pretty darn noisy under heavier loads
- The handle feels slippery
8″ Baby Benchtop Drill Press
With the G0925, Grizzly international has done the impossible – bringing a solid mini best bench top drill press under $200 that doesn’t suck. For starters, the design looks premium, with a polycarbonate & cast iron build that’s both easy to grip and is ready to take a hit. The on/off switch is on the bulkhead for easy use.
Under the all-metal hood, the ¾ HP motor with 5-speed settings is more than enough to get the job done without hassle. The “tilting” work table works wonders for productivity, and for easier lubrication, there are two cut-outs on it. To prevent debris from flying off, they have provided a guard around the drill bits. And for better QOL, there is also built-in LED light present – a rarity at these prices, indeed. The speed can go up to a maximum of 3050 RPM’s, with no slowdowns in between – perfect for most casual users.

Finally, the makers have included a depth stop for repeated drilling needs. It works well as advertised. The warranty is capped at 2 years. And for the customer care itself, they were a real treat to deal with.
Pros
- Powerful 120 Volt Induction motor – 5 sped transmissions which goes up to 3050 RPM’s
- Excellent design & durable build quality
- Built-in LED and debris guard for easy use in dim-lit situations
- Easy, extremely responsive controls
- 2-year warranty
Cons
- The worktable could’ve been a bit wider
1/2 HP 8-1/2-Inch Bench-Top Oscillating Drill Press
Priced at $202, the Shop Fox best drill press under $200 is the perfect fit for a DIY’er who is uncompromising & yet, is still under s budget. So What DO you get? Well, two things actually. First, a capable drill press machine. And then – with a bit of tool-less adjustment – a nicely capable power sander as well.
Powering everything, we have a ½ HP motor, which, in tandem with the variable speeds and 8 – ½ swing makes for a handy, flexible drilling experience. For even more versatility, they have customized the chuck to accept drill bits ranging from 1/64 to 1.2 inches, meaning that you can use even bigger drill bits this time around. The cast iron worktable is adequate. It’s tough and carries slots for easy lubrication. Heck, there is even a dust “catcher” around the drill bits holder for maximum convenience

As for the sander perk, the precision-ground sanding spindle can be used with sanding drums between 1 and 2 inches in diameter & up to 4-1/4 inches long. The oscillating design ensures a clean, sanding finish – always.
Pros
- Class-leading, high torque ½ HP motor for seamless, faster-drilling action (variable speed supported
- Can also be converted (tool-less) into a capable sander, if need be
- Depth-stop and scale for easy repetitive drilling
- Paddle switch for extra safety
- Wider 90-degree tilt-enabled worktable
Cons
- The compact size might be too limiting for certain drilling needs
- Assembly can be a hassle
Mini Drill Press Bench – 97511MDP
Taking compactness to a whole new level, the SE 3 – Speed Mini Drill might lack the “beefiness” that other drill presses in this review possess. But make no mistake; it’s one of the most powerful bench top drills you can buy today.
With a powerful motor that churns out up to a whopping 8000 RPM’s, this best drill press under $200 is a pleasure to use. The 7 – 1/2 inches drill height offers plenty of flexibility, despite its sizes. However, a limited spindle might bothersome. The vented cast iron worktable is good.

It’s aptly sized & delivers plenty of airflow at all times. Personally, we were surprised by how intuitive this bench top drill was. Granted, there is a bit of a learning curve. But once past you get past that, going back to the bulkier, costly drills may seem a bit pointless.
We recommend this tabletop delight for jewellers, craftsmen, hobbyists, mechanics, woodworkers, and small repair shops. The warranty is capped at 2 years and covers malfunctions & manufacturing defects.
Pros
- Surprisingly capable motor with three-speed transmission levels (up to 8000 RPMs)
- Large, vented worktable
- Minimal power consumption, thanks to the compactness
- Two-year warranty
- Portable
Cons
- Obviously restricted drilling opportunities
- Spares are hard to come by

Best Drill Press Buying Guide
I have given ten factors to choose the best drill press available. Though there are only a handful of few drill presses priced under $200, all we can do is make sure the essential features are present or not and at the same time, we need not worry about whether all the ten factors satisfied or not.
Factors to choose the Best Drill Press under $200
I let you know what the elements I used to shortlist the best drill press machines.
#1. Variable Speed
There are some drill presses, have the fewer number of speed variations alone. But I have included only the drill presses have minimum 5-speed variations as best ones.
#2. Horse Power
The higher the HP (Horsepower) is better for you. I have included the drill presses which can provide you with the efficient performance and ensure controlled and consistent power.
#3. Table height adjustment
With the right drill press, you never need to worry about bending or breaking the handles. The material is of solid cast iron. I have included the best budget drill presses under $200 that do not mean I compromised on quality. I have made sure that the table height adjustment must be smooth and flexible.
#4. The design must be efficient
The design of the drill press must be suitable for you, and you should be able to set the drill depth quickly. The design must focus the use at the convenience of clutch depth stop. The drill press design must be comfortable for you to handle repeated drilling for hours.
#5. Key Chuck Size
While the drill press cost must be cheap below $200, I am very austere on the features, flexibility, and versatility of that affordable drill press. I am happy, if my inexpensive drill press, offers me the chuck that accepts 1/2 inch key.
#6. Beveling Worktable
Your drill press must allow you to bevel the worktable in either direction 45 degrees. This feature ensures you can do angled drilling operations. It handles the tricky operations for the precise correct angles.
#7. Spindle Travel
If you see the flooded online reviews of drill presses from many wood-working professionals, then spindle travel size is not a great deal for them. They do not talk about it. I do want to recommend only the best for you. Hence spindle travel length is also one of the factors I use to pick a best low-cost drill press.
#8. Drill Speed
Drill speed is a critical factor in choosing the right drill press for you. Usually, a good drill press must offer around lower range of 300 RPM to the higher range of 3000 RPM. I have included all of the low-speed drill press to middle & high-speed ones.
#9. Amperage
Another factor for my list is Amperage of the drill press. Higher Amperage you get in high price end models. If you take a brand, hmmm, Wen, for example, the low price model offers you low Amperage, and the price keeps on increasing on the higher priced models. Wen has 2.3 Amps, 3.2 Amps, 4.5 Amps, 5 Amps, 8.6 Amps and 13 Amps.
#10. Add-ons
Key storage, Laser, Work light, Digital speed readout and table roller extension are some of the add-on facilities you get in some drill press models. I see what add-ons come with each model and give some weight to the usefulness of the addon to find out the best drill press model.
